From 1998 to 2000 #prankradio was a channel on EFnet IRC that featured live prank phone calls. Some of the regular prankers I remember: warbux, phewl, mancow, edison, makaveli, barbi, dznutz. These guys were funny as hell, and the entire thing was uncensored of course. The channel has been dead for almost a decade now, and any efforts to revitalize it have flopped. It’s hard to believe, but it was once the largest channel on EFnet.
Anyway—reason why I’m posting this—yesterday I was looking through some old media and I came across a CDR entitled “PRANKRADIO”. On it, I found about 600 pranks in mp3 format. I think my friend (who was also into #prankradio at the time) gave it to me just before the channel died. There are 40 something “Herb Tanner” pranks alone!

UPDATE 7/7/08: I created a torrent of the archive. There are 2 seeders presently. If it doesn’t start immediately, leave your client open for a few hours or email me and I’ll seed again.
I remember logging into the channel once and hearing a live episode. People would post real phone numbers in the channel and you could hear the people broadcasting talking about what was been typed. Very real and fun stuff. You should make a torrent or something of those, I’m interested.

Warbux pranking ezoon’s dad (my introduction to Prankradio), posing as a black guy or Yoda left me grasping for breathe with tears flowing down my cheeks. Ah, the memories… Oh, and who can’t remember the great “You s*** eating son of a bitch!” line from Mr. Tanner?
The channel had to fend off takeovers as it grew, the stream got packeted, and eventually the broadcast was saturated with talk instead of pranks.
Later on my friend and I started our own prank channel, it never reached the success of PR but it had its fans.

Wow haven’t seen this stuff surface in a long time. I was an original PR member, phreakradio, and UGradio as well. We were definitely a big deal for a quite some time. “You god damn chicken shit eatin son of a bitch.” LOL. I did the old Raney Jr. pranks. Those were the good old days.

=) Good to see people remember, and FYI Phreakradio started in the Mid-90s and then died around 96-97 (the reason was at the time Lonestar and Lexi was dating and drama broke out between them and it caught the scene on fire with rottonboy and many others) the one that picked up in 99 was more of a 2nd edition, it did have some of the original people. I my self was on both along with Optel and many others. There is a channel on IRC called #Coded which still has some members from those days who log in there and also #WTF , all on efnet. I did happen to find when Phreakradio came back in 2001 and have found some MP3s of those pranks , the dates are 02-19-01 to the 21st, about 30 MP3s, I know Optel did allot of those pranks on those , anyhow if anyone is interested leave a comment w/ contact info

Damn…I miss the good old days. I was originally a member of #niteprank, then #prankradio for a while and then good old #UGradio. I miss UG more then any though, we had it goin on though. Great people, all the resources, bandwidth, conf’s calling cards, social engineers, etc. We should do a reunion one day just for good old time sake. I dunno how funny any of us are anymore but it’d be worth a shot, either way it would bring back some good memories.

Anyone have #dwc archives? It got too expensive. DWC got busted by royal canadian police. All the good free stuff went away like dialpad was it? So they started using phonecards but the shoutcast was really expensive.

haha its good to see there’s people that still remember, appreciate, enjoy it. i hadn’t thought about it for years, but i went through some old “compusa”-labeled CD-R’s from ‘99 and found dozens of original pranks from me, mancow, warbux, and the others. i also found a \logging\ directory with all the logs from all the msgs i had with ppl and the IRC channels back then, and the #prankradio log from May 1999 through June 2000 is like 2195381058 MB’s. i dont know what happened to everyone, last i heard about warbux, he was doing pretty well in the rap game. no idea where he’s at now tho.
I have the original “PrankRadio – Volume 1″ (best of PrankRadio all time) along with hundreds of other individual pranks. I’d be happy to make a torrent out of it if ppl are interested. E-mail me at my fake email address jimmy3783@gmail.com, i check it every so often.
on another note, since it did become such a success in such a short period of time (and the reason for that was its organization combined with the people we had pranking, which explains why the other wannabes never were on our level) im gonna throw a little money around, make everything legit, and just do exactly the type of pranks we did last time. i sold my company last year and have some extra time and money and i researched the ins and outs, talkd to my entertainment lawyers, and its looking feasible. ill keep you updated folks. obviously there wont be a #prankradio on EFNet again, but perhaps something similar.. good to see this site btw..
